Digital Marketing is the process of taking your brand or identity online and promoting in the digital space called internet. There are some terms associated with this. In this article we shall explore these terms in detail. Note that these are not standard terminology but an understanding of different sub processes.

A client is a person who has an idea or a business venture to take online. A client can also be a person who has an online presence but wants to improve it. A digital marketing person is one who is qualified in using various tools related to online promotion. Big companies have dedicated teams and budget for online promotions. They may also hire digital marketing agencies for a professional campaign.

Consider an example of a unisex barber shop who has no online presence. They decide to go all out with online presence and promotion. These are the steps they can go about.

  • Create a Facebook Page and Instagram business account and link them
  • Start saving phone numbers on their smartphone with whatsapp so that offers or news can be shared on whatsapp status

Role of accounts manager is to format the content as per social media requirements of each platform. Insert the necessary caption and tagline with hashtags. In case of a website, the account manager will be either admin or editor. Collecting relevant pictures for the article. Typing in the article free of errors and posting it with relevant tags and SEO data. If you wish so, the account manager can ever create content for you. But that is role of a content curator.

Content curator

The difference between a creator and curator is a creator means someone who creates something for the first time. A curator pools in information from different sources. This is a more difficult process because it involves research. Plus the curator may not be knowing about the topic at all. Content curator puts in a lot of effort and time with the client. At times the client may not have the time to explain things. So you have to fill in the blanks by yourself. Content curator is sometimes mistaken as writer. But as explained earlier, writer is a creative person. Writers focus on niche. Content curator has to be ready to face any client.

Social Media curator

The term content curator may be applied to a person who writes articles for website. A social media curator would have an in depth knowledge of social media trends. Posts on social media need sharp and catchy captions. Creating hashtags is like harvesting in the dark. Social Media curators themselves have a large group of followers and online friends.

Digital Media Assistant or Digital Assistant

This is the most important role of a digital marketing person. Digital Assistant knows all about the internet. This person is qualified in digital marketing. Clients want to speak to this person because of the solutions provided. Assistant has to be good at marketing and communicating with several clients at the same time. An account manager is mainly responsible for posting content. Digital assistant should be able to handle all tech and platforms for the client.
